The Awen Group was out and about last night supporting it’s fellow Uptown Shelby businesses. The Cleveland County Arts Council’s “El Nido” Art Exhibit & Art ‘Round Town Gallery Crawl. Starting at Frame Masters Gallery, the gang crawled around the court square visiting galleries, schmoozing and taking in some great local and regional art.

We Have Arrived!
Always be a first rate version of yourself, and not a second rate version of someone else.
- Judy Garland
Like proud parents looking through the nursery window, we all stood on the sidewalk yesterday and watched as our sign went up. Our storefront now proudly declares that we are The Awen Group, and our logo is flanked on either side by our tag line “Inspired Marketing”.
Not having a sign until now, there have been plenty of people staring into the windows (some even going so far as to press their faces against the glass) trying to figure out what’s going on in there. And being located across the street from the Shelby Cafe, one of the oldest gathering spots in town, has surely made us the topic of conversation at more than one breakfast. The mystery is solved today and we are anonymous no longer.
We like to support local vendors, so our sign was installed by Chuck Pearson of Advertising Specialties. If you like our sign or need something similar, feel free to give him a call.
Here are some photos of the installation and the finished product:
Creative Exercises
Sometimes a visual is so strong it conveys all the meaning and emotion needed for a campaign. Small children and animals generally fall into this category. So when The Awen Group was asked to produce the Cleveland County Health Departments Spay & Neuter campaign, we knew we were in for some big puppy dog eyes, pulling at the heartstrings, fluffy, cuddly images.
An exercise we like to use to get the creative juices flowing is First Impulse Headline. Amy selected a number of stock photo images and passed them around to get our gut reactions. There was lots of “awww how cute” and “don’t you just want to take him home” to be heard around the office and some great ideas came out of the exercise.
On the other hand, some ideas were definitely on the “that’s hilarious but we could never actually present that to the client or we would be so fired” end of the spectrum.
Here are some of our favorites from both sides. Be sure to leave a comment to vote for your favorite.
The Office
The difference between perseverance and obstinacy is, that one often comes from a strong will, and the other from a strong won’t.
-Henry Ward Beecher
We’ve been our new office a little over a month now and are finally ready to show off the finished product. All the blood, sweat and tears have been well worth it and, like all things that you really devote yourself to, we’re so proud of what we have accomplished. Designed, decorated and even with furniture assembled by the staff of Awen, here’s the space we call home Monday through Friday.
Big thanks to everyone who contributed their time and labor. Also, thanks to Janet and Frame Masters Gallery, Shelby for the great artwork on display. If you are interested, please give her a call.
P.S. The signage is finally going up this week too. Pictures to follow.
Girl’s Weekend Nashville
A friend is someone who knows the song in your heart and can sing it back to you when you have forgotten the words.
- Henri Nouwen
One of our great strengths as a company is the strong bond between all the employees, a deep friendship between a diverse group of people, each bringing their own strengths and supporting each other through good times and bad. And our favorite way to strengthen and grow this bond is to take a trip together.
In the past we’ve visited Bald Head Island, NC, Atlanta, GA, Lake Anna, VA, Asheville, NC and now Nashville will never be the same. The girls from Awen, including honorary employee Kim, Libby (official hair stylist to the Awen Group) and first timer Kasi, spent a long weekend in Nashville, TN recently taking in the sights and enjoying the nightlife. Also, we celebrated Jennipher’s upcoming marriage by throwing her a bachelorette party. We lived it up for three days and spent the next week recovering with a new collection of inside jokes and some great pics to remember the trip by.
Enjoy the photos below and remember what happened in Nashville, stays in Nashville.
